I help women of color who are looking for more out of their careers make the moves to obtain what they have been seeking…true job satisfaction.
Do you…
- Want to feel valued by your employer?
- Feel like you are playing the corporate game but somehow ARE NOT MOVING UP THE LADDER?
- Feel AFRAID to ask for what you know you deserve?
- Have self-doubt that is keeping you from achieving your dream career?
Or perhaps you FEEL STUCK working a 9 to 5 that only provides a paycheck and you know you can do something more.
Well let me tell you something…IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!
I know this to be true because I changed the game for myself. And not only that, I created Sincerely Ready to teach other women of color how to not only find their next opportunity, but grab it. I wanted to create a platform to help women often overlooked, and undervalued in the workforce not just break, but shatter glass ceilings.
When working with me you will get individualized one-on-one coaching. I’ll help you grow and hold you accountable as you make moves in your career. We will work to define what success means to you, identify your next step, and empower you to go and get it.
I decided to take charge of my career and live beyond the stigma associated with the color of my skin. So let’s get you ready to do the same.
My story
I’m a take charge Puerto Rican woman born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Being around people who looked like me was exhilarating. It held the special meaning that I didn’t have to try to be anything else but who I really was.
But as I grew up my love of books and education became my obsession. The truth of the surroundings I knew and loved as a kid started to come to the surface. I began to see how people of color, those underrepresented in places of power, are put in communities with no assistance and left to fend for themselves. At this moment I knew my calling was to excel in life, to build a career that offered me the opportunity to give back. To show people who looked like me that we for sure can be better than they think we can.
After years of studying and being the first in my family to graduate college, I decided to spread my wings and leave New York. Through hard work I gained entrance to Yale University Graduate School which was a proud moment for me, my family, and my community.
At Yale it all started. No longer was I in a diverse community with individuals who experienced my same struggle. I found myself in a place where your background was judged and my skin color stood out. It was the first time I was called “Ghetto” by someone who didn’t even know the true meaning of the word.
This was the point where I knew I had to kill it if I was going to make it. I couldn’t be just good enough. I had the to be the best.
But it wasn’t easy. Getting my PhD was tough but making it in the working world was harder. As a scientist and researcher I was stuck in a world where white men ruled. Being a woman is one thing, but a woman of color was overload for many individuals. I had my ideas thrown aside and often felt like my true value was overlooked.
There were times I wanted to just give up. Live a life for a paycheck and call it. But then I remembered that little girl in Brooklyn and all her friends. I remembered how much I wanted to show her and all the other people of color that we can make it. Yeah it will be harder for us, but our strength lies in the fact that we know how to struggle.
For years I have worked my way up the corporate ladder from manager to director. From thinking about programs to designing and implementing them. From being supervised to becoming a supervisor.
And in all of this I never forget that I am a powerful woman of color and I will never be stopped. My dreams will become my reality. I have done it and will keep moving up no matter what shackles others put on me.
And if I can do it so can you.
For the past ten years I have worked in management for hospitals and non-profits. During my career, I have planned and executed large community based programs that required me to be on point all the time. This included mastering being an effective leader, clear communicator, negotiator, and risk taker. I’ve also supervised large teams using a unique combination of mentoring and coaching, reviewed countless resumes and interviewed hundreds of top ranked candidates. These experiences have shown me what works, and more importantly doesn’t, when you are trying to get a job done and excel in multiple styles of work environments.
Don’t get me wrong, these experiences and knowledge did not come easy. And what I learned is that excelling is not just about hard work, it’s about playing the game while still being your authentic self. Not easy but when you get to the point of knowing the rules, you can then figure out how to break them.
This is what we can do together, work on fine tuning the skills you already have, become more connected to who you truly are, what you want, and make that push toward getting it.
